I never feared being in an interracial relationship. One may say I never saw color, but I saw it blatantly clear and I respected it. ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿Love is love. .
Was it easy? Were there misunderstandings? Was it respecting another culture than raised? 💯 % .
My truth that I never talk about, is that I DID fear raising mixed children and knowing that they would experience prejudice and hardships that I couldn’t protect them from.
Fear, racism, bigotry, discrimination and oppression aren’t things that we are born with. They are taught and learned actions.
It is something that is planted, like a tree. This tree that was planted in soil that our country was built on. It has a long roots in the ground that has grown from years of ignoring it and covering it over. There is no other way then to DIG IT UP. .
Know better. 👏🏽Be better. 👏🏾Do better. 👏🏿
We have equipped our kids with the most powerful tools. Self-love, confidence and belief that everyone is equal, regardless of race, income, gender etc. We have a big mixed family and they know love and acceptance, so even when the outside world may judge them on the way they look, they know their true value.
Look at your actions, hold yourself and everyone around you accountable, work together and listen. That’s how we better understand each other's journey, and by learning from eachother's stories, we can expand our perspectives.
Love. Respect. Understanding
